By Popular Demand: The Beaker Video (and random BG Technology updates)

Well folks, report cards go home Monday, and I would like to take this opportunity to publicly appreciate the hard work of all the students from Mme Holden and Mme O'Hara's classes who successfully completed the massive, end-of-term, seven-page hardware test. Well done, everyone! A special word of congrats goes out to James P., who earned the highest mark in the entire school!

Now that first term's over, we're on to our software units...

  • The kindergarteners are learning how to use the basic functions of tool software, and touch-based learning tools.
  • The primary classes are starting to learn Notebook - the presentation software built especially for SMARTBoards interactive white boards.
  • The extended Primary/Junior classes (grade 2, 3, and 3-4 students who have a double period of computers every week) have started creating storyboards in advance of making animated GIFs.
  • The 4/5ers are finishing their Candy Computers, and will be moving on to a focused study of the basics of Photoshop Elements.
  • The 5/6ers are starting independent study units based on their interests and skills.

Long live the BG Geeks!

No problem, Ash. The first few times I watched it, I laughed until I cried. Even now, I get a huge kick out of it.

1. The thing that I liked was
When we get to put the frosting on the candy.+ the thing that I learned about the most was the CPU.

NEGITAVE: the thing that I dint like was when I didn’t know what to do and to think hard also to hurry up and cleaning up.

Next year: next year I think we should do it because you could learn interesting things.

Candy computers

Positives: I liked making candy computers because I had lot of experiences, learning where to put the parts on the motherboard, learn parts of the computer like the R.A.M, the motherboard, a C.P.U, a sound card, a video card, a power supply …
Also, I liked making the candy computer because it was fun & I got a actual chance to actually make a motherboard & learn easier with actually touching & physically build a computer & I think it’s a better way to teach kids & I’m a kid so I no how it feel’s like. I learned to print out small peaces & put it in to a big picture. . It was a fun & good way to learn unit. P.S.i liked working with my friends & team work.

Negatives: I always broke the peaces & I was mad @ my self because I hat to always restart & the group members got mad & were not pleased. Another problem was that
Someone, in the group ate all the candy. We had so many arguments & we didn’t get along that much. People had no patience for the icing. I didn’t complete the test because I went home for lunch, sickx2 then I had no time to talk to Ms Bromley then she put it on my report card about independence.

Would you suggest this to another class? Yes I would suggest this to another class because they will have lots of experiences, learning where to put the parts on the motherboard, learn parts of the computer like the R.A.M, the motherboard, a C.P.U, a sound card, a video card, a power supply …
Also, they will like making the candy computer because it will be fun & they will get a actual chance to make a motherboard & learn easier with touching & physically build a motherboard with all the parts on it & I think it’s a better way to teach kids physically because they will learn with more fun. I like it so I think they will like it too. They will learn to print out small peaces & put it in to a big picture. That’s why I think it’s a good thing to do with another class. It will be fun & they will like it like I do to!

Dear ms .BROMLEA,

1. I liked when our group build the CANDY COMPUTER.

2. I liked working in group because everybody has very good ideas on how to build the candy computer.

3. I would recommend the candy computer project to other students to learn about hardware and to make the candy computer because it is fun and you can also learn about hardware!
